![]() (In fact, in the North prior to the 1930s, many African-American Christians practiced a form of worship found in denominations such as Episcopal Churches and Methodist Churches, more similar to their White Christian neighbors. As these enslaved Africans, who were concentrated in the southeastern United States, incorporated West African shout traditions into their newfound Christianity, the Black Christian shout tradition emerged-albeit not in all Black churches or in every part of the country. One ear damaging screamer after the other. The shout music tradition originated within the church music of the Black Church, parts of which derive from the ring shout tradition of enslaved people from West Africa. Her performance was brilliant with what was an awful song which she had chosen for her. ![]() Rai elle this year sang "Sail" by AWOLNATION in her first audition, they are an alternative rock band, a genre that jeref claims to hate but for some reason he raved about her singing it Matt Cardle did Come Together and I Love Rock 'n' Roll. Who's sung Rock songs on The X Factor? I only remember Creep being done, and Marilyn Manson's version of Sweet Dreams in series 9, the rest of the time the Rock singers normally have to sing Pop numbers and change the song to their style.īen Haenow did Highway to Hell, Come Together and Demons. Strange that considering you have such a negative view of pop and rock that you regularly support contestants that sing pop and rock songsĪs long as they fit a certain demographic of course Rather the opposite really to those who just like pop and rock. Not necessarily as there is no proof that the demographic of a saturday night TV audience is the same as people who buy music, and for every music buff they attract they might lose people who just want to watch a light entertainment TV showĪnd given that your opinion of what constitutes an act that would be "of interest" is quite narrow, then i'm not sure that would be a sensible starting pointįor someone like myself who enjoys lots of different genres of music such as soul,r&b, reggae, jazz, blues, gospel etc, so not exactly narrow. ![]() Yes, but as i have said above if they had 12 acts in the final that would be of interest to people who actually go out and buy music then i am sure their viewing figures would be better. Of course its aimed at viewers who watch on a Saturday night, that is the point of a Saturday night light entertainment TV show. Unfortunately the show is aimed at viewers who watch on a Saturday night rather than people who are actually looking out for new artists whose music would be worth buying. Add to that the format of the show is really designed for all round pop singers to win, so most of these discussions about diversity are in the end probably irrelevant.Īgree with this. Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey have had a profound effect on modern vocalizing and the audiences for shows like XF and The Voice seem to be overly impressed by melisma and big voices. Jorja is more in the Amy Winehouse or Lauryn Hill mould anyway. Jorja and artists like her are too independent of thought to appear on XF. I’m guessing if Jorja Smith was to start singing on XF, they would stop her and ask her to sing something by Rihanna. I would like to see someone on the similar lines to Jorja Smith or NAO on the show, but it's not likely to happen anytime soon.
